That's not what I understood from random info found on the web, googled again and found Energizer AA datasheetFrom memory (by do check) AA Alkaline can do 2A load maybe more

check the blue "Milliamp-Hours Capacity", it goes down quite a bit at 500mA already and they don't expect much more.
