IMHO that is ambiguous and potentially misleading. The data channel used to convey EDID is I2C. Uses clock, data and ground. Same wires for both directions. Either the cable supports data in both directions or in neither direction. Not possible for the cable to be responsible for data communication working in one direction but not the other.note: many HDMI adapters do not pass data in both directions, and can be the cause of no EDID Data.
I have seen something posted in the last week or so about RPiOS always using the 400 kHz clock rate. That is an optional rate whereas all HDMI sources and sinks should support the 100 kHz rate.
