It's now April and 4 months since this fstab problem was reported. Isn't it about time a fix was released?
mount: /etc/
fstab: parse error at line 1 -- ignored
mount: (hint) your fstab has been modified, but systemd still uses
the old version; use 'systemctl daemon-reload' to reload.
test@raspberrypi:~ $ systemctl daemon-reload
The "parse error" you're seeing likely has nothing to do with the original error that started this thread.

Strongly suggest that you get your fstab fixed before you reboot, or you'll be sitting there sadly looking at an initramfs prompt.

If you're not sure what's wrong with it, post your /etc/fstab here (in code tags).

Also, just a comment on the original problem: I could of course be wrong, but I believe this is a Debian upstream problem, and not RaspberryPi specifc at all. If that's the case, doesn't seem likely to me that RPL will fix it themselves. Use the fix I posted and enjoy life.
