Raspberry Pi Connect • Re: Self-hosted TURN relay server?

@ geerlingguy I had just seen your video on this.
I would think that RPI foundation would get enough Data center operators to donate bandwidth for a node.

I know the folks that run https://rpiservers.com would most definitely donate to the cause.
I think what gsh mentioned above:
In the past we've used things like mirrors to help with some of our bandwidth issues
means Raspberry Pi would not like to rely on external servers (even if graciously hosted by community orgs) for the service. I don't think that precludes the ability to someday host your _own_ relay server, e.g. making the Connect relay service a package you could run standalone on a VPS that's accessible on the public Internet. But that's a whole different ball of wax (and would require some changes in the Connect service on the Pi and in the connect.raspberrypi.com service most likely).

I think it'd be neat to see the code behind the service as an open source project, but so far it seems like that's not the case (even if it uses some underlying libraries that are).

It's not a big deal to me, as I am more likely to carry on with my Wireguard point-to-point VPNs for my own stuff, and SSH instead of a GUI, but to each their own!

It sounds like SSH access might be coming at some point though, judging by gsh's comment on the official announcement blog post.
