Pi's GPIO are 3.3V only!
Do your devices have pull-ups against VCC (5V)?
Have you checked your sensor on another platform?
Just tested a TI BOOSTXL-SENSHUB BoosterPack - that's a bunch of sensors (5 different I2C devices) on a small PCB.
All looking good here on my end, with the only thing done by me manually enabling I2C (dtparam=i2c_arm=on) in config.txt
