If you are running off a HDD/SDD, I don't see much value in the microSD slot for removable media. You can do this but is is super fiddly and with my fat fingers and reduced sensitivity due to carpal tunnel I cannot do it without picking the unit up (which is a non starter when cabled up). However, it does make a stellar on device backup location. Stick the appropriate sized microSD card in and do local backups. Swap the cards on a schedule for easy off site storage of your backups.

My current setup of Pimoroni Base with a 500 GB NVMe SSD (OS & Data), 128 GB microSD (daily backups), and DAC HAT driving an external mini AMP. Micro SD gets written to once a day so it should have reasonable reliability/longevity.
