Yes, the bootloader is open source and hosted on github, here:

https://github.com/muzkr/hachi

Haven't figured out what I'm going to do next, or what I can do. There is a vague idea of introducing Lua scripting, but nothing is certain.
Also thank you very much for the link, it looks very helpful, I'll look into it!

ADDED:
The biggest difficulty at the moment is that the hardware configuration of BuildHAT is unknown. Although I'm no expert, I'm sure that Lego components including electronics, communications, etc. have been well researched, so it shouldn't be a big problem. The main unknown is the BuildHAT
