Two things
  • If you recreate the log file each time the PICO is started, then you lose any previous error. Try append or rename like I do.
  • If you notice the lock up while connected to Thonny, it could be the interaction between Thonny and PICO. I found I've had to disconnect the PICO and restart Thonny. In one case, I had to reboot the computer I was running Thonny from. This is another reason to try MPREMOTE which is an official utility for uPython.
On my win box the board's port isn't available till I nuke the files and reinstall the OS. But, interesting enough, if I plug the usb while pressing the rst button, I've access to the OS empty folder. That's telling me that the usb communication isn't locked. Will still investigate...
