True... however, you risk catastrophically damaging the Pi (this would not be a warranty return) for fairly marginal gains. I get the "just because" reason, but it (a) does not run that hot (b) has reasonable cooling solutions and (c) is a fairly low cost device.

Does not make sense to me to attempt this as the risk/reward is just not there. In my desktop usage case, the fan either runs at the lowest setting or not at all. The fan in my network provider router is the only one I actually hear, if I am not streaming something with audio.
I know what I am doing, but thanks for the advice, it must be said lout for the people who are not familiar in such a mods.
Was not even implying that you did not know what you were doing, and I totally get the "just because I can" reason. Many of my personal projects do not make any sense from a practical or economic viewpoint.

My point was more about it is not particularly useful for the majority of use cases and as you point out it likely is beyond the skills of many/most folks. The end result of that combination will likely be unhappy making.
