Beginners • Re: Proper way to configure HDMI display

Thanks, @FTrevorGowen

Perhaps I have misstated the problem. I'll try to articulate more clearly. The reason i assume the display is configured correctly, is that when I start an application (say, chromium-browser - which is the end goal) in full screen mode, the window does not reach the right edge of the display. There is a gap, about 20mm (more or less) where nothing displays. The browser window (or whatever) seems unable to reach beyond that point.

If, however, I run raspi-config to do desktop with no auto-login, then that desktop DOES utilize the full screen.

My goal is to run a (true) full-screen web browser, and something is preventing that. I _assumed_ that the thing in my way was HDMI configuration in the display manager (lightdm, apparently, in this case). I may be wrong.

Also, to clarify, I have used the term X in the initial post, apparently incorrectly. As a former administrator who's been away from this for too long, I may msspeak, using older terminology. I apologize for that.

This is what I see. When I don't specify a start URL, the "You've gone incognito" display occupies (only) this area:
