Rather than rdesktop have you tried xfreerdp? So, before I run blindly into it again, can anyone suggest a good working setup that will allow me to access a Linux PC desktop remotely on a Raspberry Pi? What works for you? Are there any caveats? On the Pi I'm using latest Pi OS with Wayland labwc, but on the PC I could use anything that works.
Many thanks

My experience is xfreerdp works well connecting to Microsoft remote desktops and also to Linux servers running xorgxrdp. Note that I never got rdesktop to work with Microsoft load-balancing gateways but xfreerdp works fine.
On the server side a race in xorgxrdp did cause screen corruption at one point when the remote Linux system was slow. The initial patches to fix the race increased latency and lost performance. I'm not sure if an alternative fix was ever found.
