I just tested this. Android 14 on my Samsung A03 phone appears to support my A-Link SMSC LAN7500 based 1Gbit adaptor.Last time I tried using g_ether with an Android device it wasn't recognised. Neither were either of the "real" USB ethernet adaptors I have here.
This suggests to me that Android has no support for USB ethernet adapters.
That was with Android 13 though. 14 may be different.
I'll have to remember that for next time my phone wants to download a big software update
