what may look like random binary data might be just a mismatch in the baud rates. So have you checked that? Do you have a proper RESET in place for your GPS module?We are using L76L-M33 GPS chip in NMEA mode.
With the "old" (Release < 5) CM4 module it did send proper NMEA0183 messages, with "new" (Release >= 5) module it sends random binary data.
I just try to figure out what module changes caused this different behaviour.
