Beginners • RPi Lite and+ GUI but no Desktop

Hi

I have a RPi5 and intend installing RPi OS 64-bit. From the available OSs from the RPi Imager I was looking at selecting the Lite version but also want a GUI but no desktop. I found these 2 articles about first installing Lite and then installing X Windows:

Since these article are a few years old is the current solution to install Wayland, and if so does anyone have a link to an article how to install this?

OR

Is a better solution to install the Full version of RPi OS 64-bit and then tweak a config setting to not display the desktop?
