General discussion • RPi 4&5 HDMI Resolution occasionally 1024x768 instead of 3840x2160

Hi,

I am using RPI 4 and 5 for digital signage.

Occasionally after reboot, the system displays 1024x768 resolution instead of 3840x2160 resolution. The problem disappears usually after rebooting the system again.

Running DISPLAY=:0 xrandr --verbose ALWAYS (even if display chooses 1024x768 resolution) shows the SAME EDID (below) - indicating a preferred resolution of the connected screen at 3840x2160 at 30Hz.

Could this be the problem:

- Rpi starts up and does not detect a display and therefore uses 1024x768 as fallback option. Later on the screen is detected properly but Rpi does not adjust the HDMI resolution?

Do you have any other hints of where the problem could come from / how it could be resolved?
