You can use QtCreator to develop Pico stuff.I'm also not a fan of VSCode, I kind of miss the QtCreator, I've grown fund of when coding self-hosted stuff... and no, I just stayed at C level, as I'm fluent on 6502 assembly, but not on ARM.
You can even get it to display PIO compiler error/warning messages in the editor.
