Sounds like you have the cable reversed on the pi5 side. The blue strip of stiffener plastic should always face the movable latch part of the CSI/DSI connector, at both camera and pi end. On the pi5 this means the stiffener should face the HDMI connectors and the metallised contacts should face the Ethernet port. With a bit of luck no damage done as the cable would not be making any connection to power or signal contacts at the pi end.
