I don't expect Pi prices to go up in the States as the tariffs are primarily targeted at countries who are related to human trafficking and illegal drug smuggling. Back on topic, Apple switched away from commodity x86 processors about 4 years ago to their own Apple Silicon processors.EU directives are no longer our concern in the UK, unless selling into the EU, so they can still be made & sold to other countries, USA for instance, which is a big market; however, with Trumps intended import taxes, I doubt that the price will remain competitive...![]()
It would be nice for consumers if everything was compatible, but manufacturers like to be different to give them an edge in a market; Apple used to be regarded as the ultimate in Graphics, for instance, & used a different processor than the 'mass market' was using, but eventually they had to change owing to market pressures...![]()
If RPi do change to USB C, I expect a lot of people that have a lot of Zero units in use will not be best pleased...
As a result the product differentiation between a Macintosh and an x86 PC is much greater than even during the PowerPC era. At the same time there is less difference between a Mac and a Pi.
