In the past I just twisted them off of the pi chips. Never had an issue. With larger chips you need more force to twist them off, so fishing line or thread makes it faster for those.i've never had a problem getting them off.They come off with a bit of fishing lines or other resilient type of thread. Loop around it and tighten around it at the level where the chip and the heatsink interface. The heatsink will come right off. You can clean residue off the chip with something like goof off (a brand here in the US).
