Raspberry Pi OS • Re: INSTALL: Sunshine and Moonlight instead VPN, RDP, SteamLink (Raspberry Pi OS GNOME)

Just one question: how does one get Gnome installed and running on RPiOS? The default desktop is wayland with labwc. The supported alternatives are wayland with wayfire and X11 with lxde.

I successfully installed GNOME on Raspberry Pi OS Lite by following the guide:
GUIDE: Install GNOME Ubuntu-like on Raspberry Pi OS Lite ↗

I've no doubt. But when you write a guide for installing something under Gnome on an OS that defaults to something else don't you think it's a requirement to include information on how to install Gnome? Even more so when you're actively pushing Gnome specific features.

Or, and in my opinion this is the better option, skip Gnome entirely and document how to do the thing using the default environment?

Or did I express my point too subtly?
This method utilizes Debian packages, ensuring compatibility and stability. The installation process is straightforward, requiring only four copy-paste commands via SSH. Once completed, you'll have a full GNOME desktop environment running on Raspberry Pi OS.

While GNOME isn't the default desktop environment for Raspberry Pi OS, its inclusion in the Debian repositories makes it an officially supported option. By following the guide precisely, you can achieve a Debian GNOME setup on your Raspberry Pi.

Nope. The repositories don't work like that. You cannot assume that a package is supported by anyone or any organisation other than its developer or maintainer. There are over 64,000 packages in Bookworm (source). No single entity has the resources to test and support every one of those so they'll focus on the ones they require for what they're doing. In RPL's case that's extremely unlikely to include Gnome for reasons already expressed (Gnome is not Wayland, Wayfire, labwc, or lxde).

About the only thing you can say for an included package is that the source code is available and it doesn't break the build system.
