Troubleshooting • Re: Raspeberry Zero W with USB Hat not booting from usb drive

IRC the zero2W supports booting from a USB drive. What I don't know is whether it supports booting from a drive behind a USB hub and whether USB boot needs to be explicitly enabled. Try a forum search and a read of the official documentation (there's a link at the top of this page).

The bootcode.bin on SD approach makes no permanent changes to the zero2W. Just remove that SD card when/if you want to try booting directly from a USB device or when you want to boot a different OS from SD.

Enabling USB boot is a one time change that cannot be undone. You can still boot from SD card afterwards but IIRC if a USB drive is present it may give that priority over the SD card.
Thanks the pi board booted to the usb no problem when I got but once I installed the hub no go . What I am trying to understand is why the UAB Hat (hub) only allows me to boot of an sd card and how can I change - so far I see the only is to leave the sd in place
