Well, I don't know if it would be useful, but it might be possible to do this on ISP-BE version 0.0 with some trickery.*
It would require the X byte to be at the highest address; X would be undefined (not Alpha). It would interact badly with resizing, so we couldn't do this for the viewfinder, but it might work for a conversion. I might try it some time (not imminently).
*basically, double the width using Resample, then write the output as "UYVY" with colour channels matrixed to give e.g. (R0,G0,B0,G1).
