Ok, yes, I'm using the RP2040, I have not done anything with the RP2350 - yet. However, the RP2040 also has two stages of bootloader: first one in the ROM, the second one "boot2" in flash. boot2 is included in my small bootloader program (first 256 bytes) and needed for XIP, but not in the actual firmware flash regions. The firmware in each slot is identified by a header (first 256 Bytes), the standard "boot2" section is removed from the "application" firmware.
