These tend to be devastatingly expensive unless they're part of an AIO printerA document scanner that natively scans to a network share would suit my needs.
Because Linux market share for scanning doesn't even register. It's negligible.When all the major manufacturers are already publishing drivers and software for Linux, why do none of them add this one little bit of functionality to it?
Brother did (briefly) have a thing that ran on your Linux computer that made it respond to front-panel scan control. Unfortunately, it was terrible:
- it scanned one page only;
- onto your user desktop;
- at a fixed resolution and colour setting;
- as root (so the file was hard to move or rename);
- using a fixed filename (something like SCAN.JPG);
- using some of the worst code I've ever seen in my life.
(I got the name wrong for the technology: it's WSD, not WSP. It's supported via sane-airscan, but not as a "Scan to Computer" daemon)
