You may be right about the USB camera. Although I do have two other identical Pies each with the same brand of webcam and which run the same shell scripts. Neither of them have the same problem. It's baffling.
I can ssh into the machine at issue, but I'm not aware of the problem until after it happens and I get a Prowl notice that the machine has rebooted.
What I may do is ditch the USB cameras and use RTSP enabled IP cameras instead. ffmpeg does a decent job of grabbing frames from RTSP streams. That would also enable me to use a single Pi to deal with both cameras. Anyway, something to keep me busy.
