As @ejolson indicates, what is your internetspeed?
I also have ISP capped 1.2Gbps PtP fiber to 400Mbps now. They send me already 3 times an email with the happy message that internet speed will be upgraded or such advert like text. It was 150Mbps when I got it (and paid a small fortune for the fiber in the ground, lot of digging and drilling). They do that so they can raise the monthly fee more and more. I could even jump ISP and optical operator to get 8Gbps XGS-PON I think. So that would be great for big downloads. However, content from far is by no-way that speed. The faster my contract/ISP link, the slower the internet becomes it seems here, depends where it is. Of course many use clouds and quite often that in theory is the other side of the world, of course caches and mirrors, but it trashes the internet.
2.5Gbps will work with CAT5e cables still, that is nice, but links between (cheap) computers are always much slower than keeping it local in the computer itself. What you could do is hire VPS close to where the data is that you need. Assuming you do not need WYSIWYG for data processing. I have 2 2.5Gbps capable devices, as test setup I did point-to-point connect them, see viewtopic.php?t=389972#p2326872, but now just used as 1Gps for real work. Large transfers I do unattended if needed, so maybe change your way of working so top speed does not matter that much. You can even move to another country maybe.
