Try swapping Rx and Tx connections. Essentially, you want the following:
- Zero's GND <--> Debug's GND
- Zero's Tx <--> Debug's Rx
- Zero's Rx <--> Debug's Tx

Also, use "regular" UART side of RP Debug device, because Zero's GND/Tx/Rx is "regular" UART thing.
Dear @opengeometry,

Thanks for you response.

Updated pictures in a previous post of environment with RPi Debug Probe JST UART connection to RPi Zero 2 W GPIO pins. Believe they are as suggested above but will check again. Measure twice cut once.

It appears as though the pinout diagram has an error in the RPi's 3-pin Debug Connector Specification. The UART Signal column the RX and Tx appear to be in the wrong rows. This caused some confusion at first. And led to wiring incorrectly in the first instance.

Now using the Raspberry Pi Debug Probe documentation as definitive source for circuit design and wiring.

Have put a design spec which believe follows the above recommendation. Please see notes on this process on a GitHub page here

Will give it another go on Boxing Day.

Merry Christmas.
