Absolutely! And it's a great, and easy IDE - especially if your Pi has a little more grunt than a Zero. But it isn't so great if dabbling in Linux and learning a new GUI takes you out of your comfort zone. She wants to play with Python - not play with computers (no, I don't understand either - I like playing with both!). This way, she can stay on the computer she's familiar with (and easily set up the tree to run itself on boot when she writes a script that she's happy with!)
