The reason the linked PCIe devices do not work is they connect SATA to SATA. The regular PCIe M.2 slot, as used in most modern computers including the Pi 5, connects PCIe direct to the NVMe SSD. Some old PCIe M.2 format slots add an extra chip to convert PCIe to SATA and they use a B notch, not the M notch. You need a converter that includes the PCIe to SATA chip.
