Thank you, your document "bookworm.pdf" is very well made and very helpful.

Thanks
Also, I'm not sure what it was about my previous post you didn't like, it was not my intention to offend anyone. I simply found myself in the same situation as the last poster (who remained unanswered).

I may have misinterpreted your post. It came across to me as entitled, demanding, and lacking essential details that are needed in order to help you. You also seemed to assume that because you didn't know (and probably hadn't tried to find out) why it wasn't working you were blaming valid advice given further up this thread and in linked threads for your problems.

But that's water under the bridge.
I did get it to work following your advice. Here's the summary of my trials:
  • wayfire.ini - doesn't work.

No, it wouldn't. X11 ignores the wayland config files.
  • /etc/xdg/lxsession/LXDE-pi/autostart - seemed to not work at first, but that's not true. It does launch the specified application. However, it does this in a very odd way, launching and killing many instances in a loop (and more than one instance at the same time).

I'm guessing here as you have again chosen not to tell us what you actually had in your autostart file (and details of what your process is/does) but I'm betting that:
  1. You started the line in your autostart file with @
  2. Whatever process you started ran once then exited (or crashed).
The @ prefix tells the window/session/desktop manager to restart the proces if/when it exits.
[
  • a simple .desktop file in the /home/pi/.config/autostart/ - works!!!

Glad you got it working. Should you ever change to wayland, that method will still work.
