AFAIK I installed this image from the RPi website: 'RasPiOS-Bookworm-ArmHF-Lite-2023-12-11.img.xz'. Though @rpdom now makes me wonder if I perhaps installed the ARM64 version after all, I'm 100% sure its RPi OS, not Debian. But assume my memory serves well and I installed ARMHF, do you tell me that it still will load a 64 bit kernel if it detects an 64 bit CPU?You need to use the RPiOS images for Pi. While considering that, it's worth knowing that future Pi versions may not support 32-bit, so you should consider running 64-bit on your Pi. (Pi5 already requires a 64-bit kernel, but the RPiOS 32-bit versions do include a 64-bit kernel.)
And about your suggestion to install ARM64 based RPi OS on modern RPi's: I thought it unnecessary as long as the RPi has 4 GB or less of RAM. But I guess, interpreting your suggestion, ARM64 even in that case comes with benefits like using the more efficient 64 bit instruction set. Is this what you tried to say?!
But what about my RPi 1B, RPi 1B+ and RPi 2B rev1.1. I learned that their CPU is 32 bit. So I can not install ARM64 on that? And if not, will the RPi Foundation still support my older Pi's in the near future?!
