I disagree on both counts. The problem does seem to be fairly significant and it's not just backwards compatible with the Pico which is a problem; it seems it's lack of backwards compatibility with the way things have been done 'since forever'.

A pull-up to 3V3 and a short to 0V button, or vice-versa, isn't anything out of the ordinary.
A pull-up to 3V3 and a short to 0V button - very common, and as far as the errata says it works

or vice-versa - uncommon. I've been in the industry since the late 60s and the only place I can think it would be used is a multiplexed n x m switch array. In any case, I never trust the internal pull-ups/pull-downs in MCUs, they rarely sink/source the current you want. 0402 resisters are a tenth of a cent so add one.

Works on every microcontroller I have ever used including the RP2040. It should work perfectly fine with the RP235X but apparently doesn't.
So don't use it then.
