using a lite module while having the eMMC on the carrier board should be possible. So if you're fine with 8GB only why don't do that?

Can the carrier board design the circuit of emmc? I am not clear at the moment. I see that the official io board only has sd card and m2 ssd interface.

-> look at the CMx spec what makes lite differ from eMMC versions
-> look at an eMMC spec to figure out the details on how it's needs to be connected
