The Pi cannot handle voltages as high as 24 volts; the GPIO inputs are 3.3 volts maximum
So at a minimum you will need two resistors (68K and 10K ohms) to act as a "voltage divider" to reduce the 24V down to (say) 3V.
The Pi can "see" this (using a python script say) as a "high" signal and send a message to the cloud including the date and time, thus giving a timeline.
Similarly when the input goes low (0V)
(a better idea is to use an opto-isolater)
