One alternate option to consider is using our software synchronization algorithm. This handles syncing the start of recording between different devices automatically, and also avoids the need for external wiring.

Thanks for pointing that out. I was not aware of such alternative, which is indeed super useful.

Do you end up having as precise frame synchronisation as with wired/XVS sync?

The documentation gives the command lines to manually start the recording on each RPi, are you aware of any code base that could start the synchronised recording on each device centrally, eg. where the server passes a first network signal to each listening devices to start up their synced rpicam-vid command just in time? or can the clients run the command ahead -say eg at startup - and wait indefinitely until the server emits the signal?
