Troubleshooting • New Imager (2.0.0) not setting username/password or SSH

I wrote a new SD card with the Raspberry PI OS Lite on a raspberry PI 5 (I generally do this headless)

The PI appeared to boot (flickering green light, in line with normal boot) but I wasn't able to connect remotely (from SSH), so I plugged it into a monitor and saw that it was asking for a "new username" so I entered the username, and then it asked me to set the password (twice).

Once I had done this, I could log in directly to the PI (using a USB keyboard) but there was no .ssh directory, so it hadn't stored my public key.

I then used raspi-config to enable SSH, then I could log in to the PI (using the username/password)

So it seems that the imager isn't setting the username/password/SSH key, and didn't enable SSH.

I double checked this by running the imager again. Am I missing something?
